Indeed, as the noted journalist Herbert Bayard Swope once said, “I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure, which is: Try to please everybody.” I’ve done too much of this in the past. It was hard for me to learn to write the story for me and not with thinking what others would think of me. You have to turn off that inner critic, that’s when the good stuff comes out.
