Writerly Things 12/2/19: Blessings
Does Christmas bring hope to your heart? Make you think you can do anything with your family beside you? Strengthen you to go forward with your dreams?
Being Kind to One Another.
It helps spread the cheer of the season. Try smiling at others. Watch them return the smile. Those that don’t might perk up later when they think of your gesture.
Help Those You Can.
Giving to charities. Learning of a neighbor who needs some extra help. All can bring joy to your heart. It reminds us that no matter how low our hearts feel, helping others can lift our own. It’s that Scrooge thing.
Small Gifts Bring Great Blessings.
Perhaps you worry over the expense of gifts. Try giving smaller gifts. Something someone can use in their normal day. For instance, their favorite shampoo or deodorant. Body wash. Hand soap. Lotion. Dish towels. The gifts can go on and on.
Baking is Still Seen as Cherished.
Are you known for your cookies? Banana Custard Cream Pie? Pecan Bars? Any and all these and more would be treasured gifts. You don’t have to spend weeks in the kitchen. Just a few here and there. Or, package the ingredients in jars or another packaging, if you choose.
Bring something to a Dinner.
This year, my family is getting together for dinner instead of gifts. You can bring a dish to pass. That’ll give everyone a few more choices at the table. Variation is good. Someone might frown over mashed potatoes but be tantalized over the loaded Italian mashed potatoes.
Enjoy Spending Time with Family.
This is the true good feel of the holidays to me. I don’t get to see my family very often. At least, not all of them. So, when I do, it’s exciting and welcoming to me.
What blessings do the seasons bring to you? What do you most look forward to? Your favorite food? Music? Decorating?
Have a great week, take care, and God bless!
