Why Romanticism Killed Love: Alain De Botton

juantetcts

Alain De Botton is hilariously funny and “keeps it real” when it comes to searching for love and how assumptions get in the way. His theory is that society and its image of successful relationships is also the downfall it. Creating a list of must-haves and deal breakers as a guide is now old school.  Sharing our challenges with adulting, snoring, our inability to keep a job and whatever else threatens relationships, provides the potential partner an opportunity to make an informed decision upfront.  I’m intrigued!

His overall message is two-fold.

  1. The best way to choose a partner is to compare and discuss how messed up we all are based on our past
  2. Love involves skill, rather than intuition.
