When I eventually do the unthinkable and publish my book, I hope my readers can tell I had a lot of fun writing it. As a reader myself, I can sense if an author has enjoyed writing their story, because the reading experience is electrified. Everything comes alive and I believe author enjoyment is one of the key ingredients for a good book.

Sadly I have read books where I suspect the author has not enjoyed writing their story and the reading experience turns out to be a bit of a damp squib.

As writers we must enjoy writing our books. We must get excited at the prospect of going on a journey with our characters and even though we will endure tough times, we must get so wrapped up in our words that we forget the outside world.
