Writerly Things…10/1/17
Traci Kenworth
How was your weekend? I spent today with my family, enjoying ham, parsley potatoes, and many different pasta salads. Oh, and Hawaiian sweet bread. Have you ever tried it? It’s delicious! It was a day to catch up on each other’s lives and talk about the holidays to come. Some of the family wasn’t there but maybe next time.
So, this week I worked on the creatures features template. It had a lot of good questions that I’d never considered before like what kind of superstitions do these beings have? What kinds of food are considered a delicacy? What realm are they from? And more. I added a lot of layers to my creatures and realized some things about the humans they call enemy as well.
When you first start off with a story, it’s like shooting in the dark. You can’t quite see the target but you know it’s there. These templates help me to focus on building my creatures from the outside in. I learn more and more about them every day. It’s to the point that I can’t wait to wake up and see what I discover.
I’m going to keep this short because I want to leave the blog for my guest, John Howell. Please read his post. He’s got a new book to try and it sounds fantastic!
Have a great week, take care, and God bless!
